More than 20 million Americans have diabetes - that’s one of out every 16! And in Northeast Ohio, the prevalence is even higher with one in 14 people having diabetes. Uncontrolled diabetes can cause heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness and leg amputations.

As one of the first hospitals on Cleveland’s west side to receive recognition from the American Diabetes Association for its outpatient diabetes education program, Lakewood Hospital has been dedicated to treating diabetes for nearly two decades. In response to the high incidence of diabetes in the community, Lakewood Hospital established a comprehensive Diabetes Center. Through the Diabetes Center, patients with diabetes throughout the West Shore area have access to the latest advancements in diabetes treatment and a wide range of services in one convenient setting.
